Source-of-wealth write-up template for Singapore relationship managers

A practical source-of-wealth template should help a relationship manager start quickly without turning the file into a checklist of unsupported statements. The purpose is to organise the client’s background, wealth events, calculations, supporting evidence and review points into a narrative that qualified personnel can assess.

This guide provides a field-by-field structure for a new relationship manager. You can use it as a preparation checklist, or open a SoWerate workspace to complete the guided template and generate an AI-assisted first draft for human review.

What this source-of-wealth template is for

Use the template when preparing an internal source-of-wealth write-up for private banking, wealth management, capital markets or fund-management onboarding. It is designed to reduce blank-page drafting while keeping the relationship manager responsible for understanding the case.

The template helps you:

  • capture the minimum client and relationship context;
  • separate each material source of wealth into a clear experience;
  • record dates, currencies, earnings and assumptions consistently;
  • connect evidence references to the experience they support;
  • identify gaps, contradictions and follow-up questions;
  • prepare a submission-style write-up and separate attention notes;
  • keep human review visible before the output is used.

It is not a substitute for reading the supporting material, speaking with the client where appropriate, applying internal policy or obtaining qualified compliance review.

Before you start

Collect the information that is reasonably available to the relationship manager. Do not guess missing facts simply to complete the template.

Useful starting information may include:

  • the client’s name, nationality, residence and relevant background;
  • the intended valuation month;
  • education, career, business and family context;
  • each employment, business, investment, inheritance, gift or asset-sale experience;
  • the period and currency associated with each experience;
  • the amount earned, received or realised;
  • calculation assumptions used to estimate present value;
  • document names, public references and internal notes that support each experience;
  • questions that must be clarified before submission.

Where information is unavailable, record the point as unknown or not applicable and explain what needs confirmation.

Copyable source-of-wealth input template

1. Client particulars

  • Client full name: [Enter the name used in the internal client file]
  • Date of birth: [DD Month YYYY, if available and authorised]
  • Nationality: [Country]
  • Tax residence: [Country or countries]
  • Additional background: [Education, professional development, family context, residency history and other relevant facts]
  • Valuation month: [Month YYYY]

The additional background should explain the starting point of the wealth journey. Keep it factual and relevant. Avoid unnecessary contact details or sensitive information that does not help the source-of-wealth assessment.

2. Calculation parameters

  • Annual asset-growth assumption: [Percentage and rationale]
  • Living-expense method: [Percentage deduction or fixed annual SGD amount]
  • Living-expense assumption: [Percentage or amount]
  • Compounding rule: [Monthly, to valuation month]
  • FX rule: [At the end of each experience or at the valuation month]
  • Calculation notes: [Explain any material judgment, exclusion or limitation]

Calculation assumptions should be consistent with the workspace policy and should remain visible to reviewers. A calculation supports the narrative; it does not prove that the underlying income or wealth event occurred.

3. Wealth experience

Create one block for each material wealth source.

  • Experience name: [For example, employment at a technology company]
  • Income or wealth type: [Employment salary, bonus, business ownership, company sale, investment gain, inheritance, gift, property sale or other]
  • Period: [Start month and end month]
  • Earning currency: [Currency]
  • Total earning or proceeds: [Amount]
  • Experience narrative: [Role, activity, ownership, compensation, transaction or event; how the amount arose; and how it contributed to overall wealth]

If the client has several different wealth sources, do not combine them into a single vague paragraph. Separate experiences make dates, calculations and evidence easier to review.

4. Supporting evidence reference

Add each evidence reference under the experience it supports.

  • Document title: [Title shown on the document]
  • Original filename: [Filename that the review team can locate]
  • Reference type: [Document, public URL or internal note]
  • Relevant date or period: [Date or covered period]
  • Page or section locator: [Page, clause, table or section]
  • How it supports the experience: [Explain the fact or amount corroborated by this reference]

Do not merely list filenames. Explain why each reference matters. For example, an employment certificate may support the position and employment period, while tax records or bank statements may support the amount received.

For this version, SoWerate records evidence summaries and references. It does not require original document upload and does not perform OCR or automatic document verification.

5. Relationship-manager review

Before generating a write-up, ask:

  • Does the timeline read coherently from the earliest experience to the valuation month?
  • Are amounts, currencies and periods internally consistent?
  • Does each material statement have an appropriate evidence reference or a clear explanation of its basis?
  • Are assumptions distinguished from documented facts?
  • Are there contradictions between the narrative, dates, calculations or evidence?
  • Is anything material missing that should be raised for follow-up?
  • Is the output suitable for human review under the organisation’s internal policy?

Fictional example of one completed experience

Employment experience

  • Experience name: Senior engineering and management career
  • Type: Employment salary and performance bonuses
  • Period: January 2012 to December 2021
  • Currency: SGD
  • Total earning: SGD 2,400,000
  • Narrative: Client A worked in progressively senior engineering and management roles over ten years. The relationship manager recorded the stated salary progression and performance bonuses and explained how retained earnings from this period contributed to the client’s investable assets.

Evidence summary

An employment confirmation supports the employer, position and employment period. Annual tax assessments support reported employment income for the available years. Bank records identify recurring salary credits for selected periods. Each reference should be checked by the relationship manager and described only to the extent supported by the underlying material.

Drafting point

The write-up should distinguish documented income from calculated retained wealth. If living expenses, taxes or investment growth are estimated, state the assumptions rather than presenting the result as a verified account balance.

This example is fictional and is provided only to illustrate structure. It must not be treated as client evidence or copied as a factual endorsement.

How the SoWerate guided template works

Guided fields instead of a blank document

The workspace leads the relationship manager through client particulars, calculation settings, experiences and supporting evidence references. Required fields are highlighted so missing information can be corrected without losing completed entries.

Saved calculation snapshot

When the draft is saved, SoWerate calculates the wealth estimate using the selected compounding and FX rules and stores the calculation method with that case version. The relationship manager can review the assumptions before generating a write-up.

Privacy-masked AI assistance

When the user chooses to generate, SoWerate prepares a privacy-masked payload before sending the structured case to an external language-model provider. The AI assists with drafting; it does not receive original uploaded documents because original-document upload is not enabled in this version.

Two outputs for two purposes

The generated write-up is intended as a relationship-manager submission or client-file style draft. Separate attention notes retain missing information, consistency observations and reviewer-awareness points for the relationship manager’s own follow-up.

Human review remains required

The relationship manager must check names, facts, dates, figures, calculations, evidence descriptions and wording before relying on or submitting either document. SoWerate does not approve the client, validate evidence or make a compliance decision.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Copying generic language that does not match the client’s actual experience.
  • Treating a calculated wealth estimate as verified evidence.
  • Listing documents without explaining what they support.
  • Combining unrelated employment, business and investment events into one paragraph.
  • Hiding missing information instead of recording a follow-up point.
  • Sending an AI-generated draft without relationship-manager and qualified human review.
  • Describing SoWerate or the template as MAS-approved, compliance-approved or a substitute for institutional policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a downloadable Word template?

This public page is a practical reference structure. The interactive version is available inside SoWerate, where relationship managers can complete guided fields, save calculation snapshots and request an AI-assisted draft. Completed runs can be downloaded as Word documents after generation.

Can a new relationship manager use the template?

Yes. The template is designed to make the required structure visible to a new relationship manager. The user still needs case knowledge, evidence review, internal training and appropriate supervision.

Can I use the template when information is incomplete?

Yes, provided missing information is not invented or hidden. Record what is known, identify gaps clearly and obtain the required clarification before relying on the final output.

Does SoWerate read or verify the supporting documents?

No. In this version, users enter document references and evidence summaries manually. Original document upload, OCR and automatic document verification are not enabled.

Can the AI-generated write-up be submitted without review?

No. AI output can contain errors, omissions or unsuitable wording. A relationship manager and any other qualified reviewer required by internal policy must review it before use.

Is this template approved by MAS?

No. SoWerate and this template are not approved, endorsed or certified by MAS. The template supports structured preparation only and does not determine whether a file meets regulatory expectations or internal policy.
